Ignition Coils

For more than 25 years, SMP has been designing, developing, and manufacturing High Energy Ignition Coils for OEM, Tier 1, and Industrial customers. With a wide variety of ignition coils, SMP is able to offer solutions for any fit, form, and function requirements. As a vertically integrated manufacturer, SMP has the flexibility to design and manufacture ignition coils to custom requirements. SMP has also worked closely with customers to develop ignition coils for Diesel-to-spark-ignited-Natural-Gas-engine conversion. Design types include Coil-On-Plug (COP), Mutli-Pack, Igniton Rail, Coil-Near-Plug (CNP), and Pencil Coil.

Ignition Cables and Assembly

SMP has more than 40 years of experience in designing, developing and manufacturing bulk ignition cable, wire sets and battery cable for OEMs, Industrial and High Performance customers. Vertically integrated, SMP has the flexibility to design and manufacture custom bulk cable with different types of construction based on the selection of the core, insulation, jacket material, separation layer, finish and markings. SMP has worked closely with customers to develop ignition wire sets for Diesel to spark ignited Natural Gas engines conversion.

Core

  • Wire wound – FerroMag, SuperMag or Mag
  • Suppressor – Extruded or Acrylic
  • Metal Conductor

Insulation:

  • Single Extrusion CV or HAV using EPS, EPDM, Silicone or a special compound
  • Dual extrusion CV or HAV using EPS, EPDM or Silicone or a special compound and covered by an outer jacket

Strength Member (optional)

  • Fiberglass or Polyester Braid
  • Polyester or Nylon Tape Braid

Jacket:

  • Chlorinated Polyethylene = CPE
  • Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer = EPDM
  • EPDM and Silicone Blend = EPS
  • Ethylene-vinyl Acetate = EVA
  • Silicone
